This project shows how to improve an existing floor plan without increasing its footprint on a small lot. The owners are an artist (painter), and a craftsman who acted as General Contractor for the remodel.
Our discussions focused on changing the house layout for the growing family, and improving the connection between the living/dining area and the kitchen/garden area. With skylights and interior windows, we brought more light into the center of the house, while also highlighting art on the walls. Going below grade presented a good option for adding rooms that didn't need much natural light.
